Doi Thep Nimit Monastery
Doi Thep Nimit Monastery is a relatively new sacred site located at the top of Patong Hill, which connects Patong and Kathu. Getting there can be challenging, especially due to the steep climbs, so it is recommended to plan your visit in dry weather. Although there is ample parking at the top, the road to the monastery is narrow and winding, making it difficult to drive up. The best option is to use a motorbike with reliable brakes or walk. The hike is a real challenge, but it is a great way to explore Phuket's amazing sites.
Due to the difficult climb, group excursions are not organized here, and not all tourists are ready to climb to such a height. Therefore, even at the height of the tourist season, you will rarely see crowds of people here, which adds a special atmosphere of privacy and tranquility to the place.
On the way to the monastery, you can stop at a small viewpoint, which offers a beautiful view of the Kathu region.
The main building of the monastery is the Chedi, where locals come to pray. The Chedi is decorated with statues of Naga, a mythical creature in the form of a snake. At the entrance, you can see two giants Yaka, who protect the temple from evil spirits. The rest of the monastery buildings are closed to tourists.
The temple itself offers a wonderful view of Patong Beach.
The monastery was founded by Luang Pu Boonpin Katapunyo and continues to function as a functioning temple. Visitors are advised to respect local traditions and the rules of conduct in Buddhist temples.
