However, food courts can be a little confusing for those who set foot in this territory for the first time. The many different aromas, sounds and tastes can captivate you, but also raise some questions. Don’t worry, we are here to guide you through this culinary adventure.
What dishes are available at food courts?
There are plenty of options for dining at food courts and restaurant courtyards on Phuket Island:
• You can enjoy dishes with chicken, pork, beef, duck or seafood served with rice.
• There are also options with noodles instead of rice.
• For vegetable lovers, there are dishes with different types of meat and seafood with vegetables.
• Don't forget to try a variety of soups, including the famous Thai tom yum and tom kha.
• Omelettes with added vegetables, meat and seafood also find their place on the menu.
• Salad lovers can choose from both Thai and European options.
• A variety of curries are also available to choose from.
• In addition to Thai cuisine, you can also find such world hits as pasta, pizza, sushi and steaks.
Food courts are usually divided into different sections, each specializing in certain types of food, be it rice dishes, noodles, soups or European cuisine. The range of Thai dishes at different food courts is almost the same, unlike European ones. Usually, the choice of European dishes is small.
There is a wide choice of drinks: hot or cold tea/coffee, soft drinks and fruit shakes. However, there are no alcoholic drinks.
For a sweet finish, you can choose from Thai rice and fruit desserts, waffles and sometimes ice cream.
Cost of food at food courts
When it comes to the cost of a meal for two, considering the choice of drinks and our appetite, around 300 to 500 baht may be enough. However, keep in mind that prices may vary slightly depending on whether you choose European or Thai cuisine. Generally, European dishes are a bit more expensive, while Thai cuisine, known for its affordability, may offer you more budget-friendly options.
Above, you can see the menu of one of the restaurants, where a portion of one dish will cost you 70-139 baht. This is just one example of how you can stay within a small budget and enjoy delicious food on the island of Phuket.
Payment procedure
1. The cash register is usually located at the entrance. You go up to it, hand over the money to the cashier, and in return you receive a card and a check indicating the amount you handed over.
2. Next, you take this card and show it to the sellers in the restaurants. The seller writes off the required amount using the terminal and returns the card with the receipt to you. In some cases, you just need to press the card against the terminal that the seller points to.
3. If you have a local bank card, you can pay by scanning a QR code. To do this, you need to tell the seller "I want to pay by scan" and make the payment through your bank's app.
4. While your order is being prepared, you can return to the checkout and get change from your plastic card, if you are entitled to it.
Some desserts, drinks or snacks may be sold for cash, but more and more food courts are turning to card payments.
