How much money to take for a vacation in Phuket in 2026

How much money to take for a vacation in Phuket in 2026

When planning a trip to Thailand, every tourist asks one of the most common questions: "How much money do I need to take with me?"

After all, you don't just want to see beautiful beaches, but also to enjoy your vacation without constantly counting your budget.

The answer depends on many factors - the hotel's level, food, excursions, and your travel habits. Below, we'll detail what expenses await tourists in Phuket, what to budget for, and how to save money without sacrificing comfort.

Why it's important to calculate your budget in advance

Thailand is a country with a huge selection of services for travelers. You can live on $30 a day or spend $300 - it all depends on your travel style.

But even budget tourists face unexpected expenses: hotel deposits, transportation, excursions, medical insurance, national park fees.

To ensure a calm vacation, it's best to allocate your budget by category in advance and take a little more than the planned amount - about 10–15% for unforeseen expenses.

Accommodation

Accommodation prices in Phuket range from very affordable guesthouses to luxurious villas.

  • Budget option - from 700–1000 baht per night (about 20–30 USD). These are simple rooms with air conditioning and Wi-Fi, often without breakfast or further from the beaches.

  • Mid-range - from 1500 to 3000 baht (40–80 USD). Hotels with a pool, breakfast, and good service.

  • Comfort or family format - 3500–6000 baht (100–160 USD). Spacious apartments or villas, with their own kitchen and a shared (private) pool.

  • Premium hotels - from 7000 baht and up. These are 5★, not necessarily beachfront, but luxury service should be sought there.

Tip: to book a hotel, you can use the aggregator Trip.com, and for booking apartments and villas, please contact us - we will gladly help you find suitable options. Be sure to consider seasonality - good deals for New Year's holidays are booked as early as the beginning of autumn.

Food

Thai cuisine is one of the country's main pleasures. The food is tasty, diverse, and inexpensive.

  • Street food (night markets, food stalls) - 60–100 baht per dish.

  • Local cafes or food courts - 100–200 baht per serving.

  • Restaurants in tourist areas - 300–600 baht per person.

  • Fruits and shakes - 30–60 baht, coffee - 60–120 baht.

For food, one person needs 500–700 baht (15–20 USD) per day. If you eat at restaurants, budget up to 1000 baht (about 30 USD). But these are very averaged prices, without considering visits to expensive restaurants. For information on where to eat seafood affordably in Phuket, read our article "Where to try the best seafood in Phuket: markets, restaurants, and local secrets."

Excursions and entertainment

Phuket is unimaginable without excursions – islands, waterfalls, national parks, water parks.

Exact prices for our group excursions can be seen on the website by section. This will help you plan your budget in advance, as well as book and pay in a way that is convenient for you (currently, cash payment in baht to the courier, online in rubles and tenge are available)

With individual excursions, things are a bit more complicated, as the exact cost will depend on the precise number of people, the tour program, and, of course, transportation. Estimated costs for individual tours can be found in the following sections:

In addition to excursions, you can also organize your leisure time independently - Phuket has viewpoints, waterfalls, temples, and night markets. Don't forget about Thai massage (its cost ranges from 200 to 600 baht per hour).

Tip: Plan at least 2-3 excursions for your vacation – these are experiences that last. Don't put off booking excursions until the last days of your trip to ensure you visit everything planned. Spots for the best excursion programs sell out 3-4 days in advance, and during peak season, even a week prior.

Transportation

Getting around the island is quite convenient, but the cost depends on the chosen method.

  • Taxi from Phuket Airport to the hotel - 600–1000 baht.
  • Ride around town via Grab or Bolt (Uber equivalent) - 150–300 baht.
  • Scooter rental - 250–400 baht per day
  • Car rental - 800-1000 baht per day
  • Buses and songthaews (not available in all areas) - 30–100 baht.

Tip: renting transportation is the most cost-effective and popular option. But don't forget that you need to have the appropriate skills and a driver's license. You can read our recommendations on choosing a mode of transport and useful information on this topic in the article "Transport Rental in Phuket: How to Choose and What to Consider."

Shopping and souvenirs

Even if you're not a big shopper, it's hard to leave Thailand without souvenirs.

  • T-shirts, pareos, beachwear - 150–300 baht.

  • Thai cosmetics with coconut or aloe - 150–500 baht.

  • Oils, spices, teas - 10–600 baht.

  • Souvenirs, magnets, keychains - from 50 baht.

If you're interested in clothing - brands or mass market, be sure to visit Phuket's largest shopping center - Central Phuket.

Tip: Do not buy cosmetics at markets; the storage conditions there are entirely unsuitable. It's better to look in local supermarkets and pharmacies. You can find useful information on this topic in the article "Phuket: Where to buy Thai cosmetics."

A second and very important tip for first-timers: do not buy anything on "free sightseeing tours"; prices there are inflated many times over, and the products are sometimes not of the best quality. For example, latex pillows can be bought 3-4 times cheaper in local stores.

Small items and pharmacy

Pharmacies are located in all areas and can be easily found by the name "Pharmacy." The necessary minimum of medicines and cosmetics are also available in minimarkets - 7/11, Tops.

  • Insect repellents, sunscreens - 50–500 baht.

  • Remedies for bites, burns, diarrhea - 50–300 baht.

  • Medical insurance (mandatory! medical treatment in Thailand at your own expense is very expensive) - from 1000 baht for 10 days.

Tip: Be sure to bring any prescription medications your doctor has prescribed, and other medicines can be purchased locally. In Thailand, everything is of excellent quality, and the article "Medicines in Thailand: How to find pharmacies and drug equivalents" will help you understand the alternatives.

How best to pay

In Thailand, cash is still relevant. Small cafes and markets do not accept cards.

It's best to take with you:

  • a portion of the amount in cash dollars (euros, yuan for exchange),

  • a bank card for hotels and large purchases.

ATMs charge a commission of 220–250 baht for each withdrawal, so it's more profitable to withdraw large sums every few days rather than small amounts daily.

Tip: Be sure to read the article "What Currency to Take to Thailand in 2025: Tips and Exchange Information" before your trip. This information will not only help you save money but also protect you from scammers.

Total: How much money do you need for Phuket

  • Minimum for a comfortable stay - about 70 USD per person per day.

  • For an active vacation with excursions and shopping - from 150 USD per day.

  • A family of three for 10 days should budget 2000–2500 USD, excluding airfare, accommodation, and medical insurance.

Thai crafts

Thailand is truly a place where you can vacation on any budget. Some live in bungalows and eat at food stalls, while others choose villas with pools and private chefs.

The main thing is to plan your expenses in advance so you don't get distracted by calculations and can enjoy your vacation.

And remember: the most valuable experiences are free.

Sunsets on the beach, the smiles of the Thais, and the sound of the sea don't cost money, only time and an open heart.
