Standard insurance usually does not cover the costs of childbirth and pregnancy. Of course, there are insurance contracts that stipulate service up to 12 weeks for cases not related to pregnancy, but this is the exception rather than the rule. Most often, insurance companies do not work with such clients. Therefore, a woman in this position should take care of obtaining extended insurance and put aside an additional amount for related expenses. In Thailand (including Phuket) there are no maternity hospitals, and women go to the hospital for all questions. The price for maternity services there starts from 1,000 baht, a contract for childbirth - from 35,000 baht. You will especially have to fork out in the event of premature birth - assistance in this case can cost millions of baht.
What are the contraindications for pregnant women to travel?
Long flights should be discussed with your primary care physician, but there is a list that applies to most expectant mothers:
- Exacerbation or relapse of a chronic disease;
- Active phase of an allergic reaction;
- Difficulties with placental development;
- Gestosis;
- Threats of termination of pregnancy.
Multiple pregnancy is usually not a strict contraindication, but requires special attention and caution from the traveler.
Ban on sea excursions
The ban on travel agencies transporting pregnant women on speedboats should be taken seriously. A sea excursion is unsafe for pregnant women due to several factors:
- At sea, the waves are unstable and sometimes sudden, and a pregnant woman can experience at least seasickness. A sudden wave can make the boat jump sharply, like when riding a horse, and such blows are dangerous due to miscarriage. On the road, potholes and humps are visible to the driver, and they can be driven around in a controlled manner, but waves do not obey such laws.
- If your condition worsens, it is impossible to stop the tour or take a break. On the road on land, the driver can park and let you catch your breath, but the sea rolling will not stop even if you turn off the engine. In fact, it will only get worse.
- It is not possible to provide special meals on board - the range of products on the ship is extremely limited, if there is any at all.
- Pregnant women are prohibited from being in the sun for a long time due to the intense work of the blood vessels and heart during pregnancy. This is especially dangerous from 12 to 17 o'clock in the afternoon, when solar activity reaches its peak. At this time, it is recommended to leave even the beach, and during excursions held precisely during this period, there is nowhere to hide from the scorching rays.
- Riding on the waves puts additional stress on the spine, which becomes an additional risk factor.
- Although tourists on sea excursions are provided with additional medical insurance (as when using any transport), it does not apply to pregnant women. In addition, most islands do not have specialists who can provide qualified assistance.
These are not all the reasons why we do not serve pregnant women on high-speed sea excursions. No additional profit for an excursion can be more valuable than the life and health of you and your child. Therefore, pregnant tourists should warn the manager about their condition in advance, before booking. If you or your accompanying persons do not convey this information, then full responsibility for possible consequences falls on you. In addition, employees have the right to refuse a pregnant woman a sea excursion without reimbursement of payment and organization of a return transfer.
Pregnant travelers can only take part in two sea excursions:
- "Yao Yai / Palm Beach Club" : Transfer to the arrival point is carried out on a long-tail boat with increased stability. Due to the smooth, shake-free ride, the program is also suitable for tourists with musculoskeletal problems and infants under one year old.
