How clean is Mai Khao Beach?

Despite its national park status, Mai Khao cannot be called the cleanest beach in Phuket. During monsoon season, marine debris from the Andaman Sea often washes ashore here.

However, near large hotels, the beach is regularly cleaned and maintained in good condition. In remote areas, you can find more natural and sea-borne debris, which is due to the enormous length of the coastline.

Mai Khao during the rainy season

From May to October, the west coast of Phuket is affected by the southwest monsoon. During this period, strong waves and dangerous rip currents appear in Mai Khao.

The beach is considered one of the most difficult for swimming in summer. The lack of permanent lifeguard stations on most of the coast creates an additional danger. During storms, hotels put up red flags warning against swimming.
