Mai Khao Beach
Mai Khao Beach, the longest on Phuket Island and one of the least crowded, stretches for 11 kilometers in the northern part of the island. The area offers five-star hotels as well as budget guesthouses and condominiums. Large residential complexes are also under construction here.
Who is it suitable for:
It is worth going to Mai Khao only if you are looking for a quiet beach and hotel holiday. There are family hotels here, but with active and inquisitive children it will be boring. This area is great for young people.
Infrastructure:
Despite the rapid development of this area, there is a noticeable lack of cafes and restaurants, and small supermarkets like 7/11 are present only near the Marriott's Mai Khao Beach hotel. Large shopping centers and supermarkets are located far from this area, and there are no beach activities here either.
As for the ecology, despite the increase in tourist flow and construction, giant sea turtles continue to lay eggs on this beach. There is also a Turtle Conservation Center, which cares about the protection of these animals and holds charity events. However, alas, Mai Khao is not considered the cleanest beach due to insufficient garbage collection, part of which is part of the Sirinat National Park.
There is no entertainment on the beach, it remains "wild", without beach amenities and sun loungers. There is no nightlife here, as well as local markets. For entertainment, you can visit the old water park Splash Jungle, a small center with shops Turtle Village and the golf club Blue Canyon Country Club.
Holidays in the summer season:
In summer, swimming becomes dangerous due to strong waves and rip currents. There are no lifeguards on this beach, but red frags are regularly posted by hotel workers.
Beach with airplanes:
One of the most popular entertainments is watching planes take off and land, which makes this beach unique. Despite reports in the Russian media about the possible closure of the beach and fines for taking photos in front of planes, in fact, the situation is not so dire: Mai Khao Beach will remain open, but the area near the runway will be fenced off. The use of drones, laser pointers and flashbulbs is prohibited for flight safety reasons.
